Improve Your Results With Google Author Tags

Ad Google Author Tags and Start Owning Your Content

Does Google recognize you as the author of what you publish online? If you are not sure, then there is a good chance you may not be taking full ownership of your content. To get the most credit for what you post you need to be sure to add Google author tags.

The trick to making Google author tags stick is linking up your Google+ account with your blog. By making this small addition to your writing, you can drastically improve how your content appears in Search Engine Results Pages. All that is necessary is the addition of some basic HTML code representing your Google author tag.

Adding Google Author Tags

Make sure to setup a Google+ account before continuing. The image for this account is important as it will show in search results. Choose an image that you're comfortable with and one that helps convey your message. Provide as much information as possible as well. The more people know about you, the more they will connect to your material.

After setting up a profile, it is necessary to set up your contributor link. You can do this by clicking on your profile --> scrolling to the bottom -->click "add custom link" where it says "contributor to" ---> type your blog link using a keyword. Choose a keyword that best exemplifies your blog. Make sure public is checked, then click save.

When that is complete, you will need to add your Google + profile URL to your blog. Log into you Google+ account and look for the home button. Under the home button is the profile button. Use a right click to copy the link address.

To add that link to your blog, make sure to include rel="author" in the HTML code. Add this code to any blog article you wrote. A couple of good spots are in your bio, or place it as widget text on the side of you blog. Either one of these options will have the desired effect.

I hope you find this information useful. Setting up Google author tags is a rather easy process, but can have a big impact on your search results. Might as well take the time to just get it done! If you are using en Empower Network blog this could be particularly useful to help make you stand out in the crowd.

5 Things You Must Have to Succeed in Affiliate Marketing Online

The thought of being a passenger on a ship with somebody else at the helm is a unappealing thought for many. People like to be in control, they like to be the helmsman themselves. Especially if there is a great destination, as the target. Having to rely on somebody else's judgement and way of doing things is not very appealing to many.

Perhaps this is the reason why most people turn to affiliate marketing or online marketing in general. It is this urge to be your own boss. To decide upon your own destiny and taking control over how you are going to get there. The mere thought of not being ordered around by a boss or being flooded with assignments, meeting deadliness, having to abide to the clock on the wall. These things drive people to become the helmsman of their own boat.

This is within reach of everybody, but there are some rules and requirements in order to be successful in a business such as affiliate marketing.

So, what are the things you require to start this journey and how do you plot your route? Internet Marketing and specifically Affiliate Marketing is a very competitive business to make inroads into. You will have to equip yourself with the right tools in order to succeed. Here are five things you will ultimately have to possess in order to stand out from the rest and thus achieve success.

The first and probably most important tool is the willingness to learn and be trained. The jungle of Internet Marketing is vast and without the knowledge of how to tread through the unfamiliar territory, can and will be fatal in the end. So equip yourself with as much as possible knowledge and learn the tricks of the trade with a desperate urge. This quality to be willing to learn will be the decider between failure or success.

The second quality one must possess is the dedication of time and effort. This may be in the faze of not seeing direct results at first. In some cases several months may pass without tangible results. The secret is to hold on and wait. Remember if you give up you will only be giving up before you succeed.

The third quality is self-determination. Scaling up your efforts when things looks dull will in the end pay back double. Never say die and motivate yourself to reach for higher heights even if the going is tough. Always keep in mind that you are growing a business and nowhere is this an easy venture.

The fourth quality is discipline Applying self-discipline is crucial. You have to plan your day and projects in an achievable but orderly way. Not sticking to this plan or adjusting it constantly will lead to confusion, disarray and ultimately, failure.

The fifth and last quality is optimism. There will always be those that will try and influence you negatively. In almost all of the cases it is people that doesn't know a thing about affiliate marketing and reacts upon hear-say or people that did not have the right attitude and failed themselves. Systems don't fail, people fail. Be the captain of your own ship and master of your own sole.

Affiliate Marketing is having your destiny in your own hands. You, and only you can decide the route to your destiny and the better you equip your ship the rougher seas it will withstand.

The Truth About Internet Money   Simple Problem Solving Steps   How to Begin an Effective Home Business

Why Is My Internet Site So Boring?

Once again a new assumption is being made. I will compare the need to use as many senses as possible in creating your site in order to entice your clients to become your leads or potential clients.

Taking, as an example, one commercial on television, I have used a bread commercial. Follow my logic.

We have five senses:

hearing: auditory visual: sight taste: taste olfaction: smell feel: kinetic and psychological touch

The more senses used at each stage of the buying process, the easier it will be for the consumer to buy the product. In the bread commercial, the goal is to get the consumer to the store. Three senses are used:

seeing the commercial. (visual) hearing the happy family and the sound of the children laughing (auditory) feeling the psychological warmth of being in a positive situation whether it be the family or whether it be summer. There could also be a kinetic warmth by association as they showed the family at the summer house. The bread was thick and soft. (psychological touch)

Three of the five senses were used to get the consumer to the store. At this point at the store, the consumer acquires the additional sense added by the manufacturer.

seeing the package (visual) feeling the package of bread (kinetic touch) hearing the sound of the package as it is pressed in an out to prove the bread is soft. (auditory) the smell of the bread or the strong desire to taste the bread (olfaction)

The consumer has bought the bread and now gone home. He now can use all five of his senses to judge for himself. Has the marketing been done properly? It was highly effective and manipulative to gain an end result.

What if we were to use the same model in our marketing sites and marketing products on the internet. After doing this analysis, I personally realize my site is boring. Currently, I use very little of the 5 senses other than a few photos and some color. I considered this deeply lacking. 90% of our brain is visual. Most of my site depend on reading.

By adding a free gift such as a pdf, you give your potential lead the kinetic feeling of a printed document. Using video would add an important auditory element as it adds value combining the three senses together: hearing, sight, and psychological touch.

From going to a site which basically has none of the five senses, you have a site which is as vibrant as it can be, in a virtual environment. The next step would be to create a sense of taste and smell through photos and videos illustrating food and flowers.

The Truth About Internet Money   Simple Problem Solving Steps   How to Begin an Effective Home Business

Your Brand's SEO Content Strategy

It is an avoidable fact that whatever business you are running, your potential customers are searching for you online. Numerous studies conclude that one of the most fundamental changes in consumer behaviour over the past decade is that research conducted on a brand or service is now more thorough, thanks to the internet. Today's tech-savvy and analytically inclined consumers are more independent and prefer to know more about brands before handing over their hard earned cash. This presents a challenge to marketers and brands that need to insure that their relevant consumer base will be coming into contact with their branded content when they do conduct internet searches on their company or industry sector.

Branded content and SEO

The practice of search engine optimization encompasses a wide variety of techniques and methods, some on- and some off-page. While on-page SEO is certainly still a vital aspect of ensuring a site's SEO health, the greatest trend in SEO these days is undeniably the production of a solid content marketing strategy.

Creating multiple listings

Ideally, a good SEO content strategy will aim to spread a variety of content out across multiple platforms. This increases the chance of your branded content being found - even if the prospect wasn't searching for your specific keywords. If your business name is common, or closely related to another business name, this can give you another spot in the first page of results, which may just give your brand the upper hand over the competition.

Sharing your content

Social media is a quintessential factor in the new content-based SEO equation. While creating multiple pages of content for the search engine crawlers to index is all well and good in itself - this action can be maximised by using social media to share that content. Social media is no longer just a place where people communicate and bond - it is a place where discussion is more often than not prompted by interesting, original and topical content. In fact, most people and brands now use social media primarily as a platform to publish content from all over the web.

This SEO strategy is twofold: on the one hand it creates more traffic to the relevant content pages which significantly increases the odds that a user may link to your pages - which in turn increases page rank. Secondly, it allows other users on a social network to also share that content. SEOs have been noting that social activity around any given content is also a vote of confidence from the internet community - which means social actions such as 'liking' and sharing will also improve the SEO of your brand.

Think beyond the blog

While having a company blog is one of the best and easiest ways to improve your brand's visibility when searched for online, there are other spaces on your own site or third party sites and directories that can work in the same way. One type of SEO content that is frequently ignored is customer success stories. Customer success stories will of course include your company name and industry related keywords, which means that even if these recommendations are not actually on your own website, they will be popping up the search results.

Starting an Online Business

Look for the right opportunity for you.

Search the internet and see what is out there. If you have a special area of interest, search for it on Google using various search terms.

Search areas you are interested in. On Google, always watch the top of the page to see how many sites are returned from your searches, to get a feel for how many others are doing similar searches.

Watch how many others are interested in the things you're interested in. Browse through some of the sites on pages 1 and 2 of the Google search results, to see what kinds of websites you find from your searches.

Research the types of online business. Dig a little deeper into these websites to see what services, products or expertise they offer.

Choose an area to focus on. Once you have a feel for what's out there in your area of interest, make a few notes about what services, products or expertise you might be able to provide in a similar area.

Define the resources you require.

Starting a business costs money. Be aware that running a business costs money, even an online business. Look at the expenses as investments in your business.

Running a business takes time. Running any business takes time. A startup business usually requires more of your time than an established business. You can be successful in an online business working part time.

Running a business requires focus. All businesses require focus, but focus is particularly important in an online business, because your focus determines who your customers are, and how they find you. The better focus your business has, the more you will achieve in the time you have available.

Technology. Technology is, by definition, an essential resource of any online business. You have to know how to create websites, how to be found by the search engines and how to interact with customers once they find you.

Assistance. Knowing where and when you need help with your business is essential. Running an online business is very possible for the average computer-friendly person (it wasn't, 5 years ago!) but there are still lots of details to learn.

Put it all together.

Choose a business which has a realistic opportunity of success. Select a business model which is appealing to you: service provider, product sales, expertise provider. Develop your business in a field you are interested in, even passionate about.

Find resources you can afford. List the resources you will need: money, time, technology, coaching. Make up a budget and spend a few days developing a realistic plan to fit this new venture into your life, both the time and cost requirements.

Define your angle, your expertise. Define your medium. Will you write ebooks, articles, blogs, work in social media?

Purchase the technology you require. Purchase the technology you require to construct websites, search for in demand topics, track your success on the search engines, communicate with customers and make sales.

Obtain assistance. Find and contact a coach or mentor who will help you put all this together.

The Truth About Internet Money   Simple Problem Solving Steps   How to Begin an Effective Home Business

The Social Glue

Humans are social creatures, and we seek to build those social bonds through the quickest and most efficient ways possible. Without strength of numbers we never would have survived the wilderness, and together we have come quite far.

But if social gathering is the result, what was the cause? What drives people to attract, and more importantly to stick together?

"We'll always have Paris"

The question of what binds people together into a social group is not a new one. It has simply been rephrased. Why do two people, complete strangers, become friends? Why would two enemies join together? How do two people fall in love?

These are all social events, so they should come as no surprise that their answers are tied to our own question. The same thing that binds people together in everyday life is the same thing that binds people into social circles online: experience.

Common interests and values are important aspects, yes, but experience is what allows for even complete personality opposites to come together. More importantly it is how greater numbers of people, who are so varied and different that they hardly have anything in common, are able to unify under a single banner.

The common experience is that common thread, and sometimes it is the only thing that distinct individuals share. Even if a group eventually disperses, they'll always remember that one time, that one incident. And if they were to ever mention it again, anyone else who also experienced that event would instantly recognize it.

These two splinters of that long-lost mob can now together revel in the nostalgia of the event, and the fact that they can share that memory makes them distinct from everyone else who wasn't present. Two acquaintances can be closer together in this way than even with their respective lovers. That's the power of experience.

"That One Time, In Band Camp... "

Inside-jokes are another example of this. Or funny recollections that are amusing only to the people who had been present, one of those "You had to be there" moments. Internet memes thrive on shared experience, being inside-jokes of a sort themselves.

"What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" is now a pact between buddies. Saving somebody from choking in a restaurant binds together the savior and the savee, not out of any necessarily moral obligation but simply because they shared a common experience. "Remember that time you saved me / I saved you?"

A lot of viral marketing banks on this notion of experience as a binding agent. When the viral campaign gets big enough it becomes an "event" in and of itself. People start participating in it simply to be part of the experience; even if they had little to no knowledge of what it's for. Anybody who misses out on participating in the viral experience is just that, somebody who missed out on somebody fun.

"I Was There, Man"

Social networks have become the bulletin board for people to both bait and stumble upon others with similar experience.

Everyone who tweeted during a crisis is bound in some way by the fact that all these fellow faceless commenters also underwent the same disaster as them. Even the simple happenstance of an "epic thread", or a long-running stream of comments fueled by some interesting discussion becomes highly memorable; even spawning friendships afterwards as a result.

Two individuals who experience the same adventure can find themselves bound by it; simply because they were the only ones to feel what the whole ordeal was like and that's something no one else can understand. This can happen to hikers, to adventurers, and to two people who later fall in love because of it.

Likewise, when a couple ceases to have new experiences with one another they can start to find themselves getting bored and stagnant, and without that fresh binding glue begin to drift apart. A new experience can keep a relationship strong, because it is a new experience for the participants in that relationship to undergo together and relate over afterwards.

Anyone who's seen a plot-intensive movie understands this; they can only talk about it with others who have also seen that movie. Even if revealing spoilers wasn't an issue, simply retelling the cinematic experience isn't enough. Unless the other person experienced watching the movie like you did, any attempt to relate the feeling of the moment to them just feels lacking and awkward.

Forging Relationships, Building Communities

In social media marketing the old rules of advertising don't always apply. One cannot just "advertise at" somebody; no one is on Facebook to be lectured at. People are on Facebook to relate their own experiences and revel in the experiences of others. Social marketing is all about participating in this social game, as a peer and not as an outsider.

So, if the goal of social marketing is to bind people to the brand/product, to not only attract a loyal following but also retain it, how can we go about this? Through experience. Experience is the real meat behind the viral campaign, but not all experiences have to be viral. A clever advertisement, shared across social media, becomes an "event" in itself; in this case it's an inside joke. It's something to relate to others with while standing around the water cooler. It is... a Superbowl commercial.

Give your audiences an experience, and they'll walk away with an impression, truly something impressed upon them. Now you've given them something they can use to identify with others, and even better now that they have this common experience it distinguishes them from others who don't share that same impression.

Now you have a clique, an exclusive club. And if people want to join that club they're going to have to subscribe to your brand/product in order to be a part of that experience. That's why commercial advertisements on YouTube can still garner so many hits; it's why some people would rather watch the Superbowl ads instead of the big game itself.

Perhaps the most rewarding part is that if the experience you provided audiences was memorable enough, that fond memory can later become an icon.

That's how brands achieve longevity and make their way into the social consciousness.

The Full Experience

Because it can bind people together and later then bind them to your product/brand, experience is one of the most subtle and powerful tools in any marketing arsenal. It thrives like never before on the Web because social networks were practically built on that same foundation.

When executed properly, the experience of a successful campaign can deliver a tight and loyal audience right into your hands. And with that binding agent people can retain a part of the campaign within them for a long time. In terms of branding and awareness, there is nothing better for the task.

What are some of your favorite experiences, and how have they lingered with you? Do you think the experience of taking part in a viral campaign or ARG (augmented reality game) really cemented you into that community of users?

Article Marketing to Benefit Your Page Ranking

So what is all the buzz about article marketing and how can it benefit you?

Article marketing is using content from your site and promoting it on the web to promote yourself first and then to promote your site. I say to promote yourself first and then your site because great content makes you the expert. then you will be the person people look to for guidance.

Article marketing could be the most important tool in promoting your affiliate links or your primary business since it is very effective and free. Write anything that is on topic and that interests you.

Google loves great original website content and pays you back you with high rankings for your keywords. So when you post a great article on your site or blog it becomes valuable to Google searchers. Article marketing will be the most effective if you are actually helping your readers. Do not try to sell them something right away. Searchers do not want to be sold they want solutions. They want highly useful information that solves the problem they have.

Of course your purpose in writing great content is to increase your website or blog traffic which will ultimately lead to sales, but your first priority should be helping people. Help solve a problem or isse they have and you will reap the rewards.

To help rank higher on Google use the Google keyword tool. Even you do not have an ad-words account you can use this tool to find great keywords. A great strategy is to find keyword with low competition but with a decent amount of searches a month. Then write your article around that keyword. I would suggest over 5,000 searches a month. Keep in mind that the top listing in a Google search get about 30% of the traffic so if a keyword gets 20,000 searches a month, then if you are in the number 1 spot you will get about 6000 visitors to your article. Of that you will probably get about 10% that will actually visit your website or blog and become leads.

A great keyword density goal would be 1-3%. This means that your keyword or keyword phrase should be written once for every 40 to 60 words. Don't try to make this exact just use it as a guide. Now I don't mean just write useless information and load up the keyword in your text. This will not work will probably get your content banned or even worselow rankings. If your site is not on the first page of Google for your keyword you might as well be invisible.

Now let's say you have written a great article the next step is to get page views, get readers. You can use an article marketing service. These will save you a lot of time since you will not have to submit to each article directory individually.

Serious online marketers use article marketing as a serious tool for promotion.

How to Deal With Low-Quality Articles and Avoid Panda Penalty

A couple of years ago, when search engines like Yahoo or Google started their hard ascension towards becoming the most valuable companies in the online industry, the content wasn't so dense as it is today. At that time, not everyone had the chance of delivering content through a web platform like a website or blog, so the content was thin in number, but the quality was higher than now. Nowadays, anyone can buy an internet domain for the price of two bottles of milk, and start writing content, hoping to get huge traffic and get their sales done.

Because not everyone can provide the same quality of the content, as they might not have sufficient knowledge or are trying to develop focusing on quantity rather than quality, the average user experience dropped. Visitors are wasting time on articles low on information or which are written in a difficult to understand manner. In order to improve the user experience back to its pre-search engine era, Google developed certain algorithm updates that helped ranking high-quality content websites better than the rest. One of these updates is the Panda update. Using the technology developed by a third party, Google analyses the quality of the articles from a website and then decides if the ranking of that website needs to be changed accordingly.

If you are in the position of having one or more low-quality articles on your website, then you better act fast before you get penalized by Panda. However, even if you already dropped your rankings in SERP (Search Engine Results Page), here is what you need to do in order to restore the previous better state. Firstly, there is the need to deal with the low-quality existing articles. There are two main ways to do this: you either remove the articles from the website, and also making sure they are removed from the sitemap, or you edit them in order to improve their quality.

Even though the first method is faster, less time and money consuming, it is highly recommended to recheck the problem articles and to improve them by getting them re-written by an experienced content writer or editor. This way the article will be preserved, so you will also increase its quality without damaging the internal link structure of your website or blog.

However, if you decide to remove the article, make sure that you also remove or redirect any links targeting that page. Also, generate a new sitemap of your blog/website and send it to Google using the Google Webmasters tool.

What Keyword Numbers Can I Rank Well For?

Keywords are probably the most vital ingredient to getting good traffic flow but as importantly targeted traffic because bottom line that's what you want & need.

Many people including us have quite a bit of difficulty in trying get their websites to rank well in the major search engines. It is definitely not something you can just do with your eyes closed, but as with many things having a foundation and starting your journey to the top of the rankings in the right way is very important.

Research is the absolute key

Many people want to rank for specific keywords, but have no idea what they are up against. It might be with some luck that they were able to find a keyword and rank easily for it, but in most instances that would not be the case. It is therefore crucial that you do some proper research at the start to identify the keywords you will be able to rank for.

Attaining top rankings for very competitive keywords are not impossible. It should just be looked at as a long-term goal. There are however often hundreds of related keywords you would be able to target and then in turn get to those top rankings with far less resistance.

Work out a Plan First

The first thing you should do is think about what your end goal is and think about: "What are keyword numbers that I can rank well for?" Explaining this with an example is the easiest way so here goes:

Here's An Example

Say you have a news website. It would be wonderful if you could start ranking for a term like "online news" or just "news". The problem is that you would then need to work past all of the major newspapers as well as sites like cnn.com and bbc.co.uk. So it is better to take a step back and rethink your approach.

A useful tool to use in determining the search volumes for keywords is the Google AdWords Keyword Tool, I've covered this many times before in previous blogposts, it's a great tool, quick, simple and free to use. You can type it in Google and it will be the first result that pops up. When accessing this tool you can then type in the word "online news". You will see that it gets searched around 2,74 million times a month globally. Any keyword that has this many hits are usually very competitive and that means very difficult and time consuming to rank for.

Don't Try to Run Before You Can Walk

When browsing through the list below it, you will however see a number of related terms and they would have varying monthly searches. You can then start grouping these into different levels. For example get all the words that have over a million monthly hits, those between 100,000 and an million, those between 25,000 and 100,000 and then the rest under 25,000.

This is just a guideline and you can adapt it any way you want to. When you start out it would be the best to try and rank for the lowest group. In this group you will find many longer keyword terms, as I covered in my last post. Targeting these terms works better because you will be able to rank well for them a lot easier.

This point Makes Sense Picking the low hanging fruit just makes sense. Wouldn't you rather get 5,000 or 10,000 hits per month each from 5 keyword terms or no hits for a keyword term that gets 250,000 hits per month, but you are stuck on the 10th page? You would have put in the same amount of effort into both, but the path of less resistance will deliver positive results.

As you work on finding the right keywords to rank well for, you will quickly start to understand the value of ranking for the less popular keyword terms first. As you start getting more and more of these rankings, you will also see that you start making progress on the more difficult terms. The sky truly is the limit if you start with the right keyword research.

How to Have an Awesome and Informative Site

I searched the Internet the other day to find a website that fits this excellent title. How does one have an awesome site? An informative one was easier, I thought. Such a challenge appealed to me. What are the elements? Surely I could find examples?

I found two, actually, but the first one swept me away. As an artist and aspiring designer in my youth, I related to the Awwwards site for the best designed websites of the month--the year--and in the world for 2012. Mesmerized, I looked briefly through all of the examples, then went back and studied each one. They did not all appeal to me, I must admit, but diverse subjects 'fit' diverse people, and I suspected the choices were made by multiple judges.

The designs themselves proved to be awesome. Subtle colors warred with blatant splashes throughout, but the informative nature obviously conveyed the intended meaning of their beautiful designs. Yes, color appeals to me, but design is uppermost. Struck dumb for literally hours, I studied them all. I was indeed charmed.

The judging method follows: "The awards (are) for design, creativity and innovation on the Internet, which recognizes and promotes the best website designs in the world." The judges are a "jury of some of the most important designers, bloggers and Internet Agencies." Their goal is to build a community for the designers to achieve their best. You surely will agree many the designs are well-chosen. If my eye had been more attuned, perhaps I could have said all of the designs were well-chosen. For those of you designing your own website, here you will find much food for fodder.

About the second site I mentioned? I will say that it was more informative than awesome, but you will have to be the judge. I suspect that the non artistically inclined will relate to the more scientific nature of Hongkiat.com. In my search for an informative site, I was directed to one page of this site: 50 Informative Well-Designed Infographics. The site says, Infographics is a combination of much information explained in graphic form.

Quite taken by this site, but for different reasons, I proceeded to work my way through it. The title gives the clue. 50? The amount of material here is staggering, and you will be captivated to spend hours checking out the 50 ideas. It was a lot to take in. Later, when I returned the next day, I learned the true nature of the website. If I thought that arm of the website was staggering, I was in for a surprise. The rest of his site fits more into the 'endless' category of information for use in Internet Business.

Hong Kiat is a young man centered in Malaysia who runs this website. I came across an interview with him but could not find it again, so cannot say for certain, but I believe his site ranks sixth on Alexa, and has millions of visitors. I know I will return many times to mine the gems from his material.

Both of these websites fit the title. The diverse judges on the first site, and Hong Kiat and his crew on the second site, certainly achieved the fulfillment of "An Awesome and Informative Site." They achieved it "in spades."

For more information about the Awwwards site, you can find them at: Awwwards.com.

For more of the varied interests on Hong Kiat's blog, you can find them at: hongkiat.com/blog/category/inspiration/page/7/ or you can go to his name site, a blog at Hongkiat.com, and find an abundance of material there.
